What wildlife removal laws apply in Ontario?

By Sterex Pest Control Team

Ontario allows property owners to address most wild animals damaging their property, but rules apply. If someone else removes the animal, they must fit Ontario's wildlife-agent rules, and species-specific restrictions can apply.

Can a homeowner hire someone to remove wildlife?

Yes. Ontario says a property owner can use a wildlife agent. A person whose business is primarily problem wildlife removal can capture and release problem wild animals on the owner’s behalf.

Why does exclusion matter after removal?

Relocation alone does not fix the property. Ontario guidance also points to prevention steps such as screening damaged roof vents or closing access points so animals do not return.

Are there species-specific rules?

Yes. Species at risk and some animals have special rules. Bird, bat, bear, coyote, deer, and other situations may need different handling, so the safe approach is inspection first and humane exclusion where appropriate.
